USAID in partnership with CARE Nepal and consortium partners
Project Summary:
The USAID Adolescent Reproductive Health Project is dedicated to improving the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of adolescents, particularly in underserved and marginalized communities. This project is implemented in collaboration with CARE Nepal and other consortium partners, focusing on filling critical gaps in reproductive health education, enhancing access to youth-friendly healthcare services, and creating an enabling environment for informed decision-making among adolescents.
Key components of the project include:
- Awareness and Education:
- Conducting school- and community-based campaigns on puberty, menstrual hygiene, contraception, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and safe reproductive practices.
- Providing youth-friendly resources and information, addressing cultural stigmas, and utilizing digital platforms to reach adolescents.
- Capacity Building:
- Training healthcare workers and educators to deliver adolescent-friendly services in a non-judgmental and inclusive manner.
- Strengthening the capacities of community leaders and consortium partners to advocate for adolescent SRHR and address systemic barriers.
- Service Delivery:
- Establishing and strengthening youth-friendly health centers to provide accessible reproductive health services, including counseling, contraceptive options, and STI management.
- Improving referral mechanisms to ensure timely access to specialized care for adolescents.
- Community Engagement:
- Engaging parents, teachers, and local leaders in workshops and intergenerational dialogues to create a supportive environment for adolescents.
- Reducing stigma around SRHR through targeted advocacy and awareness initiatives led by consortium partners.
Project Location:
The project is being implemented in partnership with CARE Nepal and consortium partners in the following areas of Rautahat District:
- Dewahi Gonahi
- Katahariya
- Phatuwa Bijaypur
- Gujara
- Brindawan
- Gadhimai
- Madhaw Narayan
- Garuda
These locations were strategically selected due to the limited access to healthcare services, high rates of adolescent health challenges, and cultural barriers that prevent open dialogue on SRHR topics.
Consortium Approach:
In collaboration with CARE Nepal and consortium partners, the project leverages diverse expertise to address adolescent health holistically, ensuring inclusivity, sustainability, and community-driven impact. Together, the consortium aims to empower adolescents, build robust healthcare systems, and contribute to long-term improvements in reproductive health outcomes across Rautahat.
