In the heart of Pokharia Dewahi Tole, Ward No. 4 of Dewahi Gonahi Municipality in Rautahat district, resides a remarkable woman named Urmila Devi. With 30 years of dedicated service as an FCHV worker, Urmila’s passion for maternal health is truly inspiring. Urmila shares:
“I’ve always believed in the power of community and supporting mothers is at the heart of it all.”
Urmila’s journey took a turn when she noticed a decline in attendance at the healthy mother group she had helped establish. Determined to understand the reasons behind this, she reached out to the members and discovered a simple truth: the lack of basic amenities like snacks and DSA was discouraging their participation. Urmila recalls:
When they told me about their challenges, I knew I had to find a way to make our meetings more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
Urmila recognized the importance of these small comforts and took matters into her own hands. She advocated for the group, requesting support to arrange snacks for the monthly meetings. “She requested to support the group and arrange the snacks for the monthly meetings,” Urmila explains. Her determination paid off, and the provision of refreshments transformed the meetings into welcoming and engaging spaces.
As a result, attendance soared, and the healthy mother group blossomed into a vibrant hub of knowledge sharing, support, and empowerment.

Urmila says with a smile:
Seeing the mothers come together, sharing their stories and supporting each other, it’s incredibly rewarding.
Urmila Devi’s story reminds us that even the smallest gestures can have a profound impact on community engagement and well-being.
Her success is a testament to the power of compassion, resourcefulness, and a commitment to creating positive change. Her inspiring journey serves as a beacon of hope, demonstrating that with dedication and a little support, we can build stronger, healthier communities together.
